The Right Way?

Again I go back to social networks, mainly represented by Facebook in our parts of the world. A view of David Mencl just on Facebook appeared in the 47/2010 issue of the Ekonom magazine in the Sloupky manažerů section. He begins by the same look at the social networks as mine. I don’t understand people who have the need to give to public through that network all the, even the finest, details of their lives. I also don’t understand the people who have the need to inform the world on each of their farts. David Mencl, however, concluded that’s a way of communicating with his children.
And here we certainly differ. If I have created social ties to someone, I better keep it personally. I don’t like the phone calls much either. Not calling family, not calling friends. It’s much better to meet and talk. Arranging such meeting is good either by the phone or through the social network but I don’t need to read that he or she has some issues on this or that. Such reading is damn tedious. The magic of the social networks can be found in the possibility to let others know about my interests, favorite artists or spread my own opinions. Talking about anything, however, is much nicer with a glass of a good drink.
Just to detour back to David Mencl’s column. It’s fine to be „in“ but to make the time for the children when they are in bed already and read what they have written on the Facebook is a sign of mutual alienation. Thus not the right way to build the social relationships.
